Titled “The Old World and the New World,” this season’s Chanel collection was set against a backdrop that included broken windows and torn down walls surrounding an impressive view of a city landscape ("a place like in the Far East," Karl Lagerfeld told WWD). The elaborate backdrop served to drive home the point that Fall 2013 is all about old, classic couture meeting modern, wearable pieces that everyday women could wear.
Fittingly, given the destruction from which the models appeared, the collection was kept in a dark and neutral palette. Silhouettes were mostly long and lean and cut with some roominess and the most impressive dresses featured drop-waists. Tweet jackets and skirts suits were prominently featured as were wide belts and low-heeled suede boots.
