The Scene: Eva Herzigova and Monica Bellucci were among those seated front row to catch the show set in a magical forest with a gnarled olive tree in its center.
The Inspiration: “Once upon a time…in Sicily.”
The Look: It was an undeniably romantic season for Dolce & Gabbana where their Sicilian fairytale-inspired collection — which appeared to have been set in medieval times — included bejeweled balaclavas, corsets, hooded outerwear, raised waists, structured shoulders and plenty of pieces covered with various trees, apples and florals as well as woodland creature and key prints. While the most remarkable pieces came heavily embellished and a good chunk of the collection was heavily appliquéd, most of the silhouettes were clean-lined, so the elaborate surface adornments never felt overwhelming. For those looking to do without adornments, a few simple suits and little black dresses were also in the lineup. The collection capped off with an army of models, as it usually does, all wearing heavily jeweled mini dresses.
The Accessories: Shoes ranged from simple, pointed flats to heavily embellished below and over-the-knee pointed boots. Handbags similarly came in a wide variety of shapes and designs, the most notable were small, structured, embellished and had a slit for the models to slip their hand through (some even came with coordinating gloves), while small structured ones featuring a top handle were worn crossbody.
The Takeaway: While owl appliqué and key prints are certainly not for everyone, there was much to love in the crystal embroidered and floral printed pieces, and those bejeweled balaclavas will undoubtedly land a few covers. As for the accessories, the structured, heavily embellished treasure chest bags will surely be top sellers next season.
