It’s been three years since fashion superstar Tom Ford founded his own production company, Fade to Black, and the designer is finally foraying into features with his directorial debut. Reportedly pre-production is winding down with filming on Ford’s first feature film, titled “A Single Man,” set to start early next month in Los Angeles.

The film, an adaptation of Christopher Isherwood’s novel of the same name, is said to star Colin Firth, Julianne Moore and Matthew Goode. The novel “A Single Man,” was first published in 1964 and centers on a gay Englishman and professor, played by Firth, and set in 1962 in Southern California. The focus is on a single day of this man’s life as he determines to persist in his usual routine despite the fact that his boyfriend, reportetly played by Goode, has suddenly died in a car accident. The boyfriend only appears in flashbacks, while Moore will play a friend of the professor.

Ford adapted the screenplay for the independently financed project with David Scearce and he has secured the team of production designers from AMC’s series Mad Men, which is focuses on characters in a sixties advertising agency.
