Holiday Makeup

Whether it’s for the office party, Christmas with the family or New Year’s Eve with friends, its likely you’ll be attending a holiday party or two, just like me. I’ve been looking at these events as an opportunity to try a new look, like a metallic eyeshadow that coordinates with my silver sequin wrap dress on New Year’s Eve. I’m passing on some of what I’ve learned along the way.

Family Party

I don’t want to look like I’m going to be painting the town red when I visit my in-laws, so I’m going for a subtle peachy-pink lip in a creamy finish just like I’ve seen on Reese Witherspoon. I’m also going for a lipstick that has added moisturiser as the winter weather is a bit harsh on my skin. I’ll keep the rest of my look natural with clean skin, a little blusher, lengthening mascara and touch of highlighter on the high points of my face.

New Years Eve

On New Year’s Eve, the trend is glitter. I’ve planned ahead and found out that the best way to remove glitter make up is to rub coconut oil onto your face in a circular motion and remove the residue with a face wipe. An alternative is to use a face wash and masking tape to remove the remaining glitter, which I think I’ll leave as a last resort. My other option, which makes getting to bed after the party a bit easier is to leave the glitter and instead wear lots of mascara, classic black liner, neutral eye shadow and glossy red lipstick. I’ll be getting ready with friends so that the black liner will work.

Office party

I’m going to be wearing a long maroon velvet dress to the office party. It’s been difficult to choose what to wear that looks chic and professional. Now that I’ve my outfit, I’ve got my eyeshadow colour to match and again I’m going for eyelashes with volume and length, using a mascara that separates each lash for a really strong look. I’m also going for the glossy finish with a dark red lipstick for a look that’s very different to how I usually appear at work.

Holiday date night

We’re so busy catching up with family over the holidays that it’s difficult for us to get time just for ourselves. So this year we’re having a holiday date night. It’s likely to be a laid-back drinks night after days of rich food, and neither of us will be wanting to dress up for yet another evening, but I want to look good, so I’m going to surprise him and take the date night as an opportunity to use the trending emerald green as an eyeshadow. I’m going to copy Rihanna and have a range of greens swept across my eye-lid, taking the colour down to my lower lash line using an angled eyeliner brush. Depending on where we go, I can make it more intense with a metallic shade.
