Party Outfit Guide

I was unsure what to wear for the Christmas parties and our New Year’s Eve invitation that I was looking through designer suggestions and seeing what the celebrities are wearing. There is luscious velvet and dazzling sequin dresses, feathers and metallics all being worn this party season. If you want to turn heads, the colour on trend at the moment is emerald green. If you prefer to wear a LBD, reimagine it with frills and sheer. I am sharing some of the ideas I found so we can all look festive this season and RSVP yes to all our invitations.

Gold Rush

Metallics are being seen everywhere on the holiday party circuit. Be bold with a pair of silky, wide-leg gold pants styled with a sheer metallic blouse like that worn by la Issa Rae. If you want a dress, a gold metallic woven fabric with a plunge neck, open back and maxi length from London label TFNC will certainly turn heads. I am going to follow Olivia Palermo and wear my velvet burgundy skirt with a sheer metallic gold top. Unlike Olivia I will not be wearing a shade of deep blue or green lipstick to go with it, but I dare you to.

Another option is to go for something that is not totally metallic. Love Triangle has a V neck mini dress in all over metallic lace in a leaf design that is a little more subtle on the colour, though as a bodycon fit you will still attract attention.

All that glitters

A sequin dress is the life of the party through all December’s parties. Warehouse has a fabulous chainmail dress in silver or try the Cutout sequinned tulle dress by Emilia Wickstead.
If you want to be as bold as possible, copy Naomi Campbell’s full-length red sequin gown for a super sexy look. You can always turn this down a notch by opting for a short cocktail version of the same look.
If full-on sequins is too much, you can work glitter into your look with one statement piece. Boohoo is one of many designers that have a tailored sequin, or try a sequin top from Mango that will look great with velvet wide-leg trousers.

An LBD With A Twist

While you can never go wrong with a classic little black dress (LBD), I want to give this staple wardrobe item a refresh, either with some feather around the bust area as worn by Hailey Baldwin in her very short LBD or with sheer detailing as spotted on Kate Bosworth which provides cover, but still looks sexy.
For something a little different to the LBD, one tip I read was to try a shade of deep merlot which feels festive without straying too far from black.
My LBD fits like a dream, has army blazer buttons that accentuates the dress and takes the attention away from the deep neckline. It has also got long sleeves which I like. I will be wearing strappy sandals and I tone down the bold look with pearl earrings.

Winter Florals

This autumn and winter has seen a floral trend, which I am taking into the holiday season with one of the floral dresses from the Delpozo collection. I managed to get my hands on an embroidered floral print midi dress in alternating stripes of floral satin and embroidered cotton. It has an off the shoulder neckline with flared short sleeves and an exaggerated midi length circle skirt.

Alexa Chung wowed in her Gucci floral suit earlier in the year and I reckon it is a great party piece too. The best thing is that you can keep your make-up neutral and team it with loafers so it is great if you are going to be on your feet a lot.

The Velveteen Suit

Wearing a velvet suit does not mean that you have to look like Santa Claus. Cindy Kimberly rocked the red velvet look. Cate Blanchett chose the on-trend festive colour with her velvet suit in green. If you want to keep it sleek and sexy, an all-black suit as seen on Zendaya may be exactly what you are looking for. Hobbs’ sell a dark red velvet trouser suit that has Christmas party written all over it. You can also wear it as separates throughout the winter.

If you want to stick to a velvet dress, the Flounce London wrap ruched mini dress in electric gold velvet combines the two styles trending this holiday season, being metallic and velvet.
